Operating Principle

Internal Media Stratification

A Pressure Sand Filter (PSF) or Multi-Grade Filter (MGF) utilizes depth filtration. Raw water passes downwards through a carefully calibrated, layered bed conforming to IS: 8419 (Part 1) guidelines.

Layer 1: Fine Quartz Silica Sand (0.45 – 0.55 mm) Top Bed
Layer 2: Coarse Quartz Sand (1.0 – 2.0 mm) Transition
Layer 3: Graded River Gravels (3.0 – 6.0 mm) Intermediary
Layer 4: Natural Support Pebbles (8.0 – 16.0 mm) Bottom Support

How Pressure Sand Filtration Works

Stage 01: Depth Filtration

Raw water enters from the top. Coarser bottom gravels support the bed while fine top quartz layers trap suspended sediment, silt, and iron down to 10–20 microns without core choking.

Stage 02: Hydraulic Backwash

When ΔP exceeds 0.8 bar, the multi-port valve reverses the flow direction. Water enters from the bottom, expanding and fluidizing the media bed to flush entrapped debris into the drain.

A fast forward-rinse re-compacts and stratifies the media bed, discharging remaining micro-impurities before switching back into high-clarity service delivery mode.
